Yep — and it's a real, fast-growing field of research, led by Oxford experimental psychologist Charles Spence and his collaborators. Here's the short version.

What is sonic seasoning?

It's the deliberate pairing of sound or music with a taste to enhance or tweak the experience — the same way you'd season food, but with your ears instead of salt.

Everything from the lighting in the room to the music in your headphones can shift how a wine tastes — and in some cases the change is consistent and predictable, not just in your head.

03 · The reason

Crossmodal wiring

Our brains link the senses. We naturally match a high, bright note with something sweet, and a low, dark note with something bitter — so the right sound "agrees" with the wine and turns the volume up on it.
